Reserve Reports
The Society's reports contain a wealth of information about the birds, mammals, flora and fauna found on the Reserve; they also provide records of the development of the Society and the Reserve over the years from its inception in 1973 and we are pleased to present copies here for members to enjoy. You will note that many of these reports were produced on typewriters, before PCs became widely available and before word processing was a twinkle in Bill Gates' eye!
One thing that stands out from these reports is the sheer hard work put in by members over the years, making the Reserve the enjoyable facility that it is today. It would be difficult to name names here without inadvertently overlooking someone as so many people put in such a great deal of effort, but you will see, throughout the reports, the names of those to whom the Society owes a huge debt of gratitude. And, of course, thank you to all the un-named members who helped with this work over the years.
The reports available below have been scanned to provide an electronic copy for the website. Where it states - Currently not available - indicates that the Committee do not hold copies of that particular report either in electronic form or a printed 'hard copy'version.
Eventually, we hope to work through the reports and produce some "then and now" information, but a couple of examples will suffice for now. Little Stint are mentioned in the 1976 report but not in the 1989 report; Little Egret were nowhere to be seen in 1976, but the 1989 report notes them as an "exotic addition to the reserve list" when one adult was seen! How things change. And does anyone know what happened to the windmill shown on the map on page 3 of the 77-78 report? Happy reading!
As with everything published on the Society's web pages, these reports are copyright of the Society and may not be reproduced or re-used, except for the personal use of members, without the Society's explicit permission.
